Extract from the Good Hotel Guide 2007
'An oasis in the hotel desert of Colwyn Bay', Marian and Anthony Faragher's large, red brick B&B is in a leafy conservation area of town. A recent report: 'Well decorated, very comfortable. We stayed in Room 2, one of the front ones: super spa bath, excellent variety of fruit infusions as well as the usual tea and coffee, DVD collection.' All rooms have wireless Internet access. Breakfast in the original oak-panelled lounge (with inglenook fireplace and parquet floor) is 'plentiful, tasty and well presented'. The hallway, with stained-glass windows, is 'stunning', the hosts are 'friendly yet unobtrusive', and there is a swimming pool in the garden. Conwy Castle and Bodnant Garden are near. |
We love the North Wales coast and Snowdonia and having discovered Rathlin Country House means that holidays there are now even more enjoyable. Staying there really is a pleasure with absolutely no shortcomings. The things we love are the cleanliness, the quality of the rooms/fittings, the breakfast feasts, the easy parking, the location and the perfect approach of the proprietors. We strongly recommend and assure you that you'll be delighted.
Richard W from Ilkley on 31st July 2007
I have booked in at the Rathlin Country House many times and I have NEVER been disappointed!! The Rathlin stands in its own grounds and is in a very quiet area of Colwyn Bay yet only 2 minutes from the town centre. The accommodation is truly 5 star and the breakfast is the best there is! Anthony and Marian who run this delightful Bed and Breakfast are very friendly and welcoming and can't do enough for you! A hidden gem! Highly recommended!
Paul M from Bolton on 27th July 2007
We stayed for 4 nights. Fantastic accommodation. Perfect breakfast. Would certainly stay again when in North Wales.
Chris L from from Corby on 24th July 2007
The Rathlin Country House is a fantastic accommodation. The room with the jacuzzi is fantastic and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the weather wasn't very good so we didn't get to go in the pool! All round friendly, clean and comfortable place to stay. Would definitely recommend and would stay again. Fantastic!!
Sarah O'Neil from Ireland on 20th July 2007
Spacious bedroom and bathroom. Friendly family run business. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Rathlin Country House. First class, we will be back!!

Pat Rooke from Birmingham (Mature couple) on 24th April 2007
The standard of the accommodation - everything possible is thought of and nothing left to chance. It is well maintained and convenient for visiting the area. Also, Marian booked a meal at a local restaurant for us for the night of arrival - those extra's mean a lot!
Miriam Daniel from Manchester (Mature couple) on 4th April 2007
"This was a quality guesthouse in a pleasant leafy erea. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. Only three rooms there so they have time for you. The breakfast was faultless and the room was spotless.
Anonymous (Mature couple) on 31st March 2007

Good location, friendly and welcoming staff, facilities clean, tidy and comfortable.
John Truswell from Hook (Solo business traveller) on 27th February 2007
This is a lovely hotel: there are only three rooms but this provides an informal atmosphere that is welcoming and friendly. The room was clean and well provided for and the morning breakfast was excellent with a good choice. The hosts were friendly yet unobtrusive with helpful advice on the area and excellent local places to eat. We would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay there again.
Anonymous (Mature couple) on 21st February 2007
Total relaxation from the moment you arrive, a friendly welcome by the host is only surpassed by the pleasant atmosphere that awaits when you are shown to your room. Facilities in the room are quality and very much appreciated. Advice on local amenities such as restaurants and places of interest are given with assurance and confidence. The presentation and quality of the breakfast is a joy and sets you up for the day ahead. Both Julie and myself would like to pass on our thanks for what we hope will be the first of many visits to Rathlin Country House. Thank you.
Paul & Julie Squires from Great Bridgeford on 5th February 2007
High standard room at a very competitive price.
Anonymous on 21st February 2007
Thank you for another lovely stay at Rathlin. We were impressed as always to the attention to detail you paid to all aspects of your accommodation.
Somehow, I couldn’t bear to leave you last Sunday , so I took the room key home with me! My apologies for this oversight. Thank you once again and see you soon.
Lee from Worcester on 17th February 2007
My wife and I stayed just 1 night with 2 other couples and were absolutely delighted with the rooms, food and very friendly reception by the owners. A real gem that we will hope to return to in the near future.

Great place to stay, close to the A55 for easy access to all of N Wales and Snowdonia. Great breakfasts, friendly owners.
Top quality room, very clean and spacious.

This is a lovely exclusive hotel, in a quiet part of the town. The service is excellent, and the hotel very well maintained. I would not hesitate to book this hotel again.
Steven from Rayleigh (Solo business traveller) on 14th December 2006
Excellent accueil, decor tres agreable.
Anonymous (Young couple) on 6th December 2006
Just a belated note to thank you very much for a very pleasant weekend. The accommodation was superb, food delicious and very friendly atmosphere.
I also want to thank you most sincerely for the delicious Bara Brith you made for us. It did not last long, I can assure you and after having tasted one when we were touring round Beaumaris, at the beginning of the holiday, I can honestly say yours was not ten times but a 100 times superior. So once again our sincerethanks.
George & Joyce from Woodhall Spa on 18th September 2006
My work takes me around the globe and on average a stay in 30 different hotels (normally 4/5 star) a year and have been doing so for 10 years. So you will understand that I have much to judge a hotel by. Lets be clear, the owners call this a 'Country House' and this is a fair description, if you are looking for on-site dining (other than breakfast), room service or a bar then this is not for you but there are great places for these needs near by. Other than that the quality of both the accommodation, attention to detail and quality of service are quite simply outstanding.
I arrived at about 7pm to be greeted by a cheery owner who took me to my room, explained everything I needed to know including details of the free internet access, the DVD library available to use with the in-room DVD player. I was also told about the swimming pool/sauna (sadly no time to use it). The bedroom was gorgeous & immaculate with amazing attention to detail. A small tube of chocolate flakes to scatter on top of your hot chocolate, ample bottled water and even a scented candle to use while you were taking a Jacuzzi bath. Towels & dressing gown were lovely and soft. And then there was breakfast - wow wow wow! Free range eggs, bread that I would swear was home made and prize winning sausages. Bearing in mind there is no dining/bar/room service this is not a cheap stay at £78 for the night however boy do you get what you pay for. So if your passing the area, do yourself a favour. But beware, there are only three bedrooms and I might be in one of them!
Dave Talbot from Twickenham on 8th September 2006
Our stay at this hotel was perfect. I can not find anything bad to say because there is nothing. I would stay here again if I were in the area. We were well looked after, breakfast great, there were books DVDs to use if needed - it was like being at home. This place would be the place to stay whilst visiting Colwyn Bay. Great value for money. Clean and tidy everything we needed from DVD player, free view television to bath robes. I would stay here again.
Richard from Ledbury (Mature Couple) on 7th September 2006
We would recommend this establishment to anybody. We had three nights there in a superbly clean, accommodating, well equipped and large bedroom with a huge bathroom. The breakfasts are a banquet to be enjoyed at leisure. The free internet and DVD library were added bonuses. Plentiful free parking was great too. We have stayed at too many places where on arrival we have felt depressed by the disappointment; Rathlin is the opposite – the hosts should be commended. We would not stay anywhere else for North Wales. Ten out of Ten is the rating we say, with no exception.
Richard, Louise, Olivia and Harry Wells from Ilkley on 3rd September 2006
We had such a wonderful time. Thank you. Your accommodation is beautiful and service fab!!!
Lorraine, Dan and Cloe from Congleton on 21st August 2006
Hi Just a quick e mail to thank you for a fantastic weekend. The wedding went very well and everyone who stayed at your wonderful home enjoyed the hospitality. Next time we are looking to stay in Wales we will look to stay with you.
Andy McDonald from Bishop Auckland on 20th August 2006
I am writing to say how much I enjoyed staying at the Rathlin Country House. The facilities you provide are just what I require when travelling. I have been so used to being a room number in large hotels, it was like a breath of fresh air. Thank you very much, and I look forward to staying with you again.
Stuart G Crane of Cluny FFA FSI TEP from Ramsey, Isle of Man on 18th August 2006
Standard of rooms exceptional. DVD player in room and free DVD library an excellent idea. Rooms have either steam showers or Jacuzzis. Food hot and well cooked. Plenty of information in the rooms. Would highly recommend. Only 3 rooms so nice and quiet. You will not regret staying here. I sound like an advert, but I stay in different hotels and guest houses nearly every week and this is the best I have stayed in for a long time. I have paid double the amount for a fraction of the quality! I was very impressed. They got the attention to detail just right. It cannot be faulted...and my wife will tell you that from a customer service perspective that I can find fault in anything!!
Chris from Poynings (Solo business traveller) on 11th August 2006
Excellent in every respect - no complaints whatsoever. Lovely house, beautifully appointed room and everything very clean.
Anonymous (Mature Couple) on 27th July 2006
Very friendly service. A lack of restaurants in the vicinity. Fab house very clean and professionally run. Nothing was a bother. Very clean and comfortable.
Anonymous (Mature Couple) on 26th July 2006
Thank you for a nice stay and a yummy breackfast. I loved your swimming pool. See you in September.
Hannah (aged 9) from Manchester on 26th July 2006
A very enjoyable stay. Excellent accommodation and food.
Christina from Witham (Mature Couple) on 11th July 2006
Very comfortable and hosts were very friendly through out our visit.
John from Prescot (Mature Couple) on 4th July 2006
Despite the small size of the hotel, it was very professionally executed, with each room having it's own particular attraction. The price compared extremely well when put against other simpler guest houses and was a pleasure to visit. May well return again in the future. Food was excellent, room was great.
Christopher from Coventry (Young Couple) on 28th June 2006
Clean friendly, high standard of room and facilities given the price. The restaurant nearby is equally impressive.
Andrew from South Woodford (Young Couple) on 1st June 2006
I just wanted to say a massive thank you on behalf of both myself and my boyfriend. We had a truly wonderful weekend – mainly the result of your beautiful accommodation and fantastic hospitality. We have already spread a few of your cards around to recommend Rathlin to friends and family and have also decided we will be returning! As yet I am not sure when, but I doubt it will be too far away! Thanks again for the brilliant breakfasts (especially the sausages!), the restaurant recommendations and for sorting out the DVD player for us non-technological pair.
Laura Brenchley from Sevenoaks on 30th May 2006
As a regular business traveller, I have high standards and expect value for money. Rathlin Country House provided both and I could not recommend them highly enough. Their fine attention to detail is what sets them apart from other hotels in this bracket.
Elizabeth from Warwick (Solo business traveller) on 20th May 2006
An excellent guest house. Warm welcome, excellent accommodation, immaculate furnishings, very good location, excellent breakfast. We have stayed at hotels all over the world. In terms of comfort this matches the best. The quality of cleanliness and service. Excellent facilities. courteous owners. Very good food breakfast. Absolutely perfect in all respects.
Anonymous (Mature Couple) on 9th May 2006
Lovely building, great room. Overall very good, would recommend and we will be staying again! Friendly, wonderful room, good breakfast.
Anonymous (Young Couple) on 26th April 2006
Friendly and helpful owners. The breakfast was excellent and we would certainly return to the hotel at some future date. Spotlessly clean and well thought out accommodation.
Keith from Stokesley (Mature Couple) on 23rd April 2006
Impeccably spotless room and facilities, furnishings very new and of high quality, the breakfast was first-class in every way.
Les from Nottingham (Mature Couple) on 21st April 2006
I like the place as it is now. Beautiful house, nice bedroom and bathroom, lovely breakfast and friendly staff. Location was quiet, beautiful gardens, near town centre, easy to find. If people want to know more than what webpage tells about this place now, I would strongly advice to phone the place and ask. Very lovely place, just what I was looking for a short break.
Lea from Rugby (Young Couple) on 19th April 2006
A lot of thought has gone into making the rooms aesthetically pleasing and very comfortable to stay in.
Anonymous (Young Couple) on 19th April 2006
We often visit Colwyn Bay on business and we always stay at Rathlin. We find it a luxurious and very friendly place to stay. Marian and Anthony are superb hosts and we always feel privileged to be sharing their home – and what a home….highly recommended with 5-star treatment.
Paul E. Watts and Pam Greenwood from Shifnal on 12th April 2006
It was like being guests at someone's home. Very friendly.
Stephen from Nantwich (Young Couple) on 5th April 2006
Quiet, very good breakfast, nice atmosphere
Anonymous (Family with young children) on 4th April 2006
We found our stay (albeit a bit short) very comfortable and relaxing. I have put your card up in my company reception for all to see. We have visited Wales on a few occasions now and have found your hotel to be the best of the best. Cleanliness and friendliness are the key to a good hotel. You and your hubby excelled in this, also the cheese and mushroom omelette that hubby cooked for me was DELICIOUS!! Top marks to both of you. You will certainly be seeing us again soon.
Mr. Yusef Miskeen and Dr. Yasmin Nazir from Waltham Cross on 24th March 2006
Excellent accommodation which is Guest House based but to a very high standard - hotel is located in an up-market area of Colwyn Bay close to A55 and near to all amenities. If you are looking for a great base then treat yourself to a stay at the Rathlin County House. Hotel only provides Breakfast but there are plenty of good quality restaurants in nearby Conwy. There is an outdoor pool and sauna for the Summer months which adds that extra appeal to what is already a great place to stay. Very homely surroundings - owners were very friendly and welcoming. Extremely comfortable and luxurious.
Neil from Liverpool (Family with young children) on 1st March 2006
Fantastic location & very high standard of living
Anonymous (Solo leisure traveller) on 1st March 2006
Stayed before. Can't fault it really. Hotel groups could learn from these people as to what standards can be set. Very clean well prepared
John from Pershore (Solo business traveller) on 25th February 2006
Everything was excellent no surprises................ Luxury Accommodation in a lovely small hotel ..lovingly cared for by proud owners......
Ian from Burnaby, Canada;CA (Mature Couple) on 25th February 2006
We came to Colwyn Bay for a specific reason namely to see Elkie Brooks in concert. As I said already the hotel is top class, however we were saddened at the condition of the town and despite the excellence of Rathlin House I cannot see us coming back to Colwyn Bay in the near future. The welcome was warm and efficient. The accommodation was top class. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing one could improve on.
Anonymous (Mature Couple) on 22nd February 2006
Superb, enjoyed by all including my 4 year old daughter. We couldn't have found a nicer place to spend the weekend in Wales. Excellent location, superbly welcoming. A real gem.
Chris from Halifax (Family with young children) on 16th February 2006
We had a fantastic stay - the whole family were welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room was perfect, with lovely attention to detail - e.g. wine glasses, biscuits and bottled water. The fridge was very useful for our son's milk - we were even leant a jug to heat his morning bottle in and shown how to get the Man. United game on T.V.! Breakfast was SUPERB - the nicest we've ever encountered. The selection of food was amazing and the quality outstanding. It was so lovely that Rachel played with the toys with our son whilst we were able to enjoy our own breakfast. We personally award you all 5 stars for making our weekend so special. We will be recommending you to friends and family. THANK YOU.
The Mason Family from Stoke-on-Trent on 15th January 2006
Fantastic, will highly recommend to my colleagues. Very friendly very clean great facilities Offered everything it promised
Philip from Islington (Solo business traveller) on 17th December 2005
We found the room very comfortable, breakfast was wonderful & the welcome we got was very warm. We will definitely be booking with you again in the future & will be recommending you to friends & family.
Helen and Andy from Chester on 14th December 2005
I thought the hotel offered great value for money with well appointed rooms and is ideal for business travelers who want to avoid the typically boring and impersonal nature of chain hotels (not mentioning any names but they know who they are). The service was excellent and I found that nothing was too much trouble. I have already recommended this hotel to my colleagues and plan to stay there again if the opportunity arises. The hotel doesn't offer evening meals but this is more than compensated by a short trip to the delightful Pen Y Bryn (5-10 minutes by car).
Rezina from Streatham on 26th November 2005
I recently stayed at the Rathlin Country House for just a night with my partner. I left wishing that I had another night to look forward to there. More aimed as a Bed & Breakfast, it was so much better than I had expected. The drive up to the house was instantly welcoming, and Marion was there to greet us immediately. Our room was immaculate with attention to every detail. The bathroom was especially nice with it's own jacuzzi. Bedroom was as big as you would expect it to be and the free DVD rental was a really good idea. Every little detail from the room, to the recommendations of local restaurants and bars to the breakfast the following day. An excellently prepared meal from fresh local produce, and those sausages are to die for! Marion recommended to us for our evening meal a little pub called the Pen-y-Bryn. The menu was fantastic and it's a lovely atmosphere with a wide selection of ale's and spirits. I highly recommend combining the two places. All in all, I was completely satisfied. Not only was it excellent value for money, but I have paid much more and received only half of the standards and service you get here. I would definitely recommend Rathlin Country House and we will most certainly be back to stay. Many thanks to Marion and her family for making it such a wonderful stay.
Lee and Hayley from Worcester on 22nd November 2005
Our stay was relatively short but we will have no hesitation in returning when we next visit our family in the area. We highly recommend it to others looking for a quite peaceful stay.
Anonymous (Mature couple) on 21st November 2005
I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone. Friendly, accommodating, clean, helpful are all words to describe a lovely stay. I can have nothing but praise for the people who run this hotel.
Ian from Barnsley on 1st November 2005
The hotel is situated in the centre of all the activities we were visiting, easy to get around. The area is so beautiful, with a family pub at the top of the hill where you can eat, the views are fantastic. The service and people were very friendly, I would definitely visit again.
Anonymous (Young couple) on 29th October 2005
I would highly recommend a stay at Rathlin Country House. The rooms are immaculate and the hotel is beautiful and full of character. We had a young baby with us and the owners made us feel so welcome - even bringing our daughter some toys to play with during breakfast to give us some piece and quiet! Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was amazing - the homemade fresh fruit salad was the nicest I've ever tasted. I wouldn't hesitate in booking into this hotel again on my next trip to Wales.
Anonymous (Family with young children) on 5th October 2005
It was our first visit to Wales . The accommodation was very comfortable. The owners had a very relaxed friendly and organised approach. There was a folder with a great deal of local information including recommended restaurants. If only all accommodation was like this! One of those places that thought of every detail to make the stay special.
Martin from Milngavie on 29th September 2005
I would have not hesitation in recommending this hotel to others and if I am ever in need of accommodation in this part of Wales I would stay there again. It was very comfortable and exceptionally clean and welcoming.
Sharmian from Preston on 29th September 2005
I stayed at Rathlin House with my family in 2004 and I have to admit, even though it was miserable weather the whole time, the treatment from the owners of the house made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. If ever I'm traveling through Wales again, I'll be sure to drop by and stay a night.
Brodie Smith from New South Wales, Australia on 26th September 2005
A quick hello from Sydney and to pass on our belated thanks for the wonderfully warm hospitality you showed us during our stay last month. Our holiday in Wales exceeded our expectations and I've no doubt that a lot of that was due to you and your lovely home. Big raps from the girls who feel that the holiday was as good, if not better than New York ! Wales is a fantastic destination for families - obviously not as exotic as Spain or Italy but it can certainly hold its own in terms of lots to see and do.
Vivienne O'Grady and Jim O'Gorman from Sydney , Australia on 23rd September 2005
We spent a weekend at Rathlin in July 2005. A wonderful warm welcome awaited us. The rooms were wonderful, sumptious and comfortable. We had a wonderful weekend. The breakfast was excellent and enough to fill you for the day and we were left to enjoy it at our leisure. We will be coming back. Thank you to you all for a lovely time.
Tracey Pollitt from Huddersfield on 15th September 2005
This is one of those rare gems you come across now and then. Everything about our stay was excellent from the welcome to the substantial breakfast and the large spacious room. I have travelled extensively in Europe and the States and would put Rathlin Country House at the tope of the list of all the hotels I have used. The accommodation put some 5 star hotels to shame.
Alan from Sheffield on 7th September 2005
A most welcome break made even better by the guest house owners who try hard to accommodate all requests whether at breakfast or accommodation. Fabulous outdoor heated pool and sauna which my husband made good use of, bathrobes provided! Our room was top notch with shower and steam room. Everything provided for your comfort including essential oils for the steam room, mineral water, biscuits and assorted beverages daily in your room. Flat screen LCD TV and DVD player in Room 3. Free DVD library to choose from! Excellent, would recommend to all our friends!!! This guest house is a home from home with superb owners who care about standards of both hygiene and comfort. Excellent breakfast choices, wonderfully cooked! Rooms are modern and lavish in comfort, particularly bedroom 3!! Highly recommended!!!
Garry from Yeadon on 6th September 2005
The accommodation is of an exceptionally high standard within easy reach of a number of areas of interest and the very welcoming and hospitable owners seem to have thought of every need or eventuality for their guests. We stayed in room 3 with the steam shower facility ensuite and the owners have clearly set themselves high standards which go beyond what we would have expected in bed and breakfast accommodation - lots of current tourist information available, broadband internet connection, satellite TV and, in the event of inclement weather, an extensive library of DVDs to view. Highly recommended for a relaxing stay in quality convivial surroundings with a substantial fresh cooked breakfast each morning.
David from Glasgow on 22nd August 2005
An excellent location, which is not too far from the sea. Ideal for B & B with excellent service and amenities. Will use again.
Stefan from Mickleover, Derby on 11th August 2005
Just returned from our second stay at Rathlin and again received excellent service. The rooms are very comfortable and are what you would expect to find in a 5 star hotel. Marian and Anthony are excellent hosts and cater for every need. A gem in this North Wales town.
David Jones from Hyde on 30th July 2005
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rathlin. We were made so welcome. The rooms were lovely and breakfasts wonderful (toys were even left out for our 2 year old to play with). We would most definitely recommend this beautiful country house and hope we will be visiting again soon.
Debbie Brereton from Cheddleton on 20th July 2005
It was delightful, we could not fault it or the proprietors. We will stay there again.
Brian from Darwen on 5th July 2005
I have enjoyed warm hospitality and lovely accommodation at Rathlin Country House. Anthony and Marian go out of their way to make their guest welcome and their family run establishment ensure that you feel at home.
Sangheet Bhullar from Newport on 2nd July 2005
A very positive experience, felt nothing was too much trouble for the staff, would like to have stayed longer. Very clean with good facilities, well decorated, very friendly staff/owners.
Roy from Eastbourne on 1st July 2005
I stayed with you for a week working in Colwyn Bay . I travel and work away all week and I can honestly say it is the nicest place I have stayed in in my year and a half on the road. You had thought of everything, all the final touches and I spent hours in the Jacuzzi bath! The rates were so reasonable and you were both very welcoming, I felt like I was at home! The breakfast was huge and the pub you recommended for evening meals was lovely. I was a week early for the opening of the pool for the summer but if I was staying there in this weather now, I'm sure it would have been wonderful. I honestly can't think of anything that would have improved the service you provided and I hope to stay with you again in the future. I stayed following a recommendation from a work colleague at head office and we now ask our Colwyn Bay office to recommend you when anyone from our company travels to work at the office. Keep up the good work!
Amanda Rockett, Regional Secretary, S, SW and Wales , Wolton Chartered Surveyors from Cardiff on 27th June 2005
We found your guesthouse absolutely superb. Everything we needed to relax and 'chill out'. It felt that you had given a great deal of time and consideration in what you offer your guests and we can only emphasise how we enjoyed the feeling of really being looked after and 'pampered' in such beautiful surroundings. We were both really impressed with the tremendous choice of food at breakfast and if our next stay is longer we may have to go on a strict diet on our return home! We would recommend your Country Guest House to anyone who is considering a stay in North Wales . Both Tom and I felt your hospitality was superb.
Tom and Chris Babb from Stoke-on-Trent on 24th June 2005
It was excellent and everything was more than we expected, especially when the sun shone all weekend and we were able to use the outdoor pool and outdoor sauna. Excellent facilities, friendly people, lovely food and room and everything was great.
Stephen from Derby on 22nd June 2005
I'm delighted to write about Rathlin Country House. There are very few places to stay when you can't wait to return to as you leave! Rathlin is most certainly the top of our list to return, hopefully, again and again. It has that blend of first class comfort mixed with lovely surroundings that ensures relaxation. From the moment that we arrive, we feel truly welcomed and even for the shortest of stays, you leave, feeling that you have had the most wonderful holiday. Thank you both so much. We really can't wait to return.
Malcolm and Sue Lycett from Newcastle on 20th June 2005
It's the attention to details that make a visit to Rathlin just that bit more special. The rooms are extremely comfortable and well equipped with no corners cut anywhere. The full sized packet of shortbread spoke volumes to me!!!! Anthony and Marian are friendly and welcoming but it's a place where respecting your personal space is always their aim. I can't recommend Rathlin highly enough. it's certainly the best thing in its field I've come across in 10 years "on the road".
Ruth Brough from Burton-on-Trent on 19th June 2005
This is a very comfortable, relaxing and welcoming place to stay - in my opinion, the only place to stay in Colwyn Bay.
Colin Heyman from Cardiff on 19th June 2005
We very much enjoyed our stay at Rathlin Country House. The room was very comfortable and of an exceptional high standard. The attention to details was noticeable both in the presentation of the room and in the smaller things, such as the plentiful supply of milk for teas (so often miserly) and the free supply of current reading material and access to a DVD library. The breakfast was the best I have ever enjoyed in the UK and served in an exceptionally pleasant breakfast room. Far better that the greasy food served in anonymous huge rooms one finds in most large hotels. I thoroughly recommend your small hotel to those who value quality, comfort and appreciate that bit extra.
Allan and Ros James from Cardiff on 18th June 2005
An excellent well presented hotel, quiet and homely! Great for families and couples!
David and Laura Fielding from Blackpool on 17th June 2005
I enjoyed my stay with you, the welcome matched the facilities which were both exceptional.
Gabe Conlon from Cardiff on 16th June 2005
I found the standard of accommodation, service and food excellent. A lovely and convenient location.
David Sheers from Abergavenny on 14th June 2005
Very friendly welcome. The rooms was lovely, clean and fresh. Certainly deserved the 4 star rating.
Jackie from Hull on 11th June 2005
Rathlin Country House is an outstandingly attractive and well-appointed building in a quiet part of Colwyn Bay offering top quality accommodation in sumptuous surroundings. Add to this a comprehensive breakfast menu supplying great food, an excellent information package offering advice on local amenities and eateries and proprietors for whom nothing is too much trouble, and you have the recipe for a most enjoyable experience. All this and bike (motorcycle) friendly too. I will definitely be back.
Mark Timberlake from Bradford on 10th June 2005
Highly recommended. You'll receive a genuine and warm welcome from the owners, Anthony and Marian, discover impeccable and tastefully decorated rooms, and find almost fanatical attention to detail - it's been a real pleasure to visit. I've stayed in many hotels and guesthouses in my time, but never one that went to the effort of providing a DVD in the room, a large bottle of mineral water and (for the technically minded) wireless internet access for free. Oh! and the home-made bread/toast is excellent.

Rathlin Country House has never failed to impress. Having visited the area continually over the last year, I have never hesitated on returning to Rathlin. Marian and Anthony have always made me more than welcome, the rooms are well furnished, extremely comfortable and the full and hearty breakfast ensures a great start to the day.

Rathlin Country House was a welcome change from the mass mark et hotels that have become the norm! The hotel offers a warm welcome with home-style food and relaxing surroundings. Rathlin also offers a WiFi connection, so if it is just surfing or getting those important emails these guys are there to help.

Probably the nicest B & B I have ever stayed in. A warm welcome, unrivalled luxury (check out the Jacuzzi in Room 2!) and a breakfast that satisfies the hardiest of appetites. Worth also mentioning that there is a lovely pub further up the hill. This combination makes for a relaxing stay - highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed my short stay with you and have nothing but praise for every aspect. I have already recommended your hotel to numerous people and would definitely stay at Rathlin Country House again when I return to North Wales . Superb place - a well deserved 10/10.

My wife Pauline and I stayed with you in July 2004 and we were both very impressed by the house and by your service - I would certainly recommend you to anyone looking to stay in the Colwyn Bay area. The service was first class.

Our stay at Rathlin Country House was fantastic. The welcome from Marian warm and informative, letting us know about the local attractions and places to eat. The rooms were luxurious and full of lovely little touches to make our stay more comfortable, from the bottles of spring water to the fluffy toweling robes! Nothing was too much trouble and as we were on honeymoon, the ice buckets for our champagne were more than welcome!! Thanks to you Marian and Anthony for making our stay so special in your beautiful house.

The couple that own this hotel are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is so clean and all the little extras in the room put it well above larger hotels we have stayed in. The house has kept a lot of its original features that just add to its appeal. The bedrooms - even though there are only three - are large well equipped - even down to bottled water being available, clean and the bathroom is beautiful. The breakfasts are huge and all homemade down to the bread. The service is impeccable and even though we had a 7.30 start the morning of our departure due to a golf competition the hosts knew this so they arranged for a cool box to be left in the breakfast room full of fresh fruit, cereals, fresh juice, bread and pastries I have never had that service before even in 5 star hotels in London! The only draw back to this lovely place to stay is that the only place to eat that is recommended is up a long steep hill so you do need a car or be extremely fit! but as promised by the owners the food at the pub was gorgeous and well worth the visits. All in all I think we have found a place to stay that will be on our regular visit list. Highly recommended.
